Tornado Warning: January 12, 2023

A message from Dr. Arnold, Director of Schools.

Today I reached out to inform each of our employees of how proud I am of our staff's commitment to and quick action for the safety of our students and employees. I'd like to share that information with our community as well.

At 1:17 on January 12, 2023, the first of many Navigate alarms was set off for staff to prepare students for severe weather. Within minutes all schools implemented their safety protocols. Jefferson County Sheriff, Jeff Coffey complemented the actions of our school district in that all schools were in a weather drill in Navigate before he even knew a Tornado Waning had been issued.

Neighboring Newport Grammar School had a section of roof ripped off and a window burst, injuring several students. Jefferson County had two confirmed tornados in the county. I am proud of the actions each employee took to ensure the safety of our staff and students.

Schools also took parents waiting in line to pick up their child into the school building for protection.

Keep up the great work and know how proud I am of JCS.

Dr. Tommy Arnold

Director of Schools
